Our Youth

The definition of a Youth is a junior exhibitor 18 years of age and under as at the 1st August of each show year. Youth members are allowed to ride either their own or someone else's horses in competition. To compete for points as a Youth Member, you must be a current financial member of the AQHA.

Many shows hold special youth classes. Youth members are also eligible to compete in open classes if they wish.

Records of points won are kept for each show year and there are a number of High Point Awards presented each year by both the WAQHA and the AQHA at their respective Annual Awards Nights.
In order to gain WAQHA Youth Points, a Youth must be a financial member of WAQHA and must compete on a Registered Quarter Horse owned by a financial member of WAQHA.

The Youth of WA are really something the WAQHA should be proud of. They are our future trainers or amateurs. In the past year, we have seen a majority of our youth compete over east at the AQHA Nationals, NPHA, Halter Showcase plus many more, were they have represented there state and have always been successful. The WAQHA are proud to have put 3 of their youth on the AQHA Youth World Cup, Holly Marshall and Tahnee White – both successful trainers. Kodi Anderson will represent Australia in the 2010 AQHA Youth World Cup.
Every 2 years the AQHA hold a Trans Tasman competing against New Zealand. Holly Marshall represented Australia in 2005 and Carly Ganzer represented Australia in 2009, in which both years Team Australia defeated New Zealand.
