The Western Australian Quarter Horse Association has come up with an incentive program to encourage breeders and owners to continue showing their young stock from weanlings to senior horses. This will commence with the foal in its Weanling year being shown at Halter and continue with special events each year until they are five years old being shown under saddle. This year saw the commencement of the incentive program with over 25 mares nominated in the 2004 breeding season, with the progeny shown in the 2005 year. Owners of registered Quarter Horse mares were given a special discount if they were members of the W.A.Q.H.A., this was to encourage new membership

Run on similar ideas to the eastern states Opal Classics series, where owners of registered Quarter Horses, Appaloosa and Paint Horse mares nominate the broodmare the year that they are to produce their foal. There is a series of three payments through out the season, with the first due in August when the mare is pregnant, the second when they have produced the foal, and the final payment is when the foal is entered for the weanling futurity show. Where the Western Classics differs from the Opal Classics, who give a percentage of cash from the nominated entries to the winner of the futurity, the Western Classics also rewards the owners of the mares for taking the time, research and risk to produce the industries future show horses. This year the top three placegetters of the 2005 Weanling Futurity received the choice of a free service to one of the following stallions generously donated to the association to encourage large and small breeders to continue producing quality young stock who hold their own all over Australia.
