This is an individual membership for 1 person. Any person holding a Full Membership to the WAQHA is eligible to attend and speak at meetings and is entitled to 1 vote.
A Youth is a competitor 18 years of age and under. For horse show purposes the age of an individual on 1st August of that year shall be maintained throughout the entire year. (Example - a youth who has a birthday in July and is 18 years of age on 1st August, may show throughout the entire year as an 18 year old until 1st August, the following year.) For more information, please see our Youth Page. Youth Members are eligible to attend and speak at meetings, but are not entitled to vote
This is a membership for the entire family, it is to be an immediate family of two adults and two youth members. Each Family Member shall have full riding rights and each adult Family Member eligible to attend and speak at meetings and is entitled to 1 vote.
A life membership is the same as a Full Membership, but it has a subscription period of 20 years. A person holding a Life Membership to the WAQHA is eligible to attend and speak at meetings and is entitled to 1 vote.
This is a group membership for corporations, partnerships, societies and associations. Each Constituent Membership as 1 voting right, and each Constituent Membership shall nominate a representative that shall be the person who exercises the rights of the Constituent Membership as if it were a Full Membership
An Associate membership shall be eligible to attend and speak at meetings, but is not entitled to vote.
The WAQHA caters for Amateurs, according to the AQHA Rulebook. To be an Amateur you must meet the requirements below
An Amateur must possess a current Amateur Endorsement as issued by the AQHA in addition to being a financial member of the AQHA.
An Amateur Endorsement application must be completed and submitted every year.
The Amateur has to be 19 years of age or older on August 1st 2009, and have not within the previous three years:
a) Exhibited a horse owned by someone other than the Amateur or the Amateur's immediate family member* for remuneration**.
b) Trained a horse owned by someone other than the Amateur or the Amateur's immediate family member* for remuneration**.
c) Assisted in training a horse owned by someone other than the Amateur or the Amateur's immediate family member* for remuneration**.
d) Instructed a person in riding, driving, training, or showing a horse either directly or indirectly for remuneration**.
* "Immediate family member" means the Amateur's spouse, child, stepchild, legal ward, father, mother, step-parent, sister, brother, grandparent, grandchild or legal guardian.
** "Remuneration" means payment of money or other consideration for a service or benefit. Under AQHA rules, prize money is not to be considered remuneration, but payment of entry fees, expenses etc, by any person other than the contestant or the contestant's family member as stated above is considered remuneration.
