AMATEUR

(Taken from AQHA Rule Book, August 1, 1999)

A person is considered an Amateur Exhibitor by the AQHA;

a) When he or she is no longer eligible to show in AQHA Youth Activity classes; and

b) Provided that he or she has not personally received remuneration or any other form of compensation at any time in
the previous 3 calendar years for:

i. judging, showing, training or assisted in training any horse; or
ii. instructed any other person in riding, driving, training or showing a horse in competition;
iii. does not hold credentials of horse show judge for either AQHA or any other equine organisation, effective 1st August, 2000.

Amateur Exhibitor Card - Every person competing in an Amateur class must possess an Amateur card issued by the AQHA or their relevant association. Show management must inspect this card or a photocopy of this card at any show entered.

Application for an AQHA Amateur Card shall be made on the form provided by the Association. There is an annual charge for this card.

All AQHA Amateurs riding a registered or recorded Quarter Horse must have a current year AQHA Membership listed in their name. Amateurs must compete on a Registered Quarter Horse. If the Amateur is showing a horse owned by a family member ( see AQHA rules) that owner must also be a member of WAQHA for the Amateur to gain points towards end-of-year high point awards. For more detailed information refer to the AQHA Rule Book, 1 August, 1999.

NOVICE AMATEUR PROGRAM (Taken from AQHA Rule Book, August 1, 1999)

Every person competing in a Novice Amateur class must possess a current Novice Amateur card issued by the AQHA or must fill out a membership application in its entirety and pay for it at the show which is to be submitted with the show result forms. Show Management must inspect this card or a photocopy at any show entered. If the exhibitor is a Novice Amateur member, but cannot produce the card or a photocopy of the card at the show, they must fill out a replacement form and pay the appropriate fee at the show before entering.

ELIGIBILITY FOR NOVICE AMATEUR
Exhibitors cannot have earned a total of ten (10) or more performance points in the AQHA Open and Amateur Divisions combined. (Example: 8 Amateur Showmanship points + 2 Open Western Pleasure points = 10 points ie they are not eligible for Novice Amateur Division.)

Once an individual has earned twenty-five (25) or more Novice Amateur points after the beginning of the points year, the Amateur may continue to show in Novice Amateur classes until the end of the points year.

If an individual is considered a Novice Amateur upon application, they will be considered a Novice for that points year. Novice Amateur points earned may not be used for any of the AQHA Amateur awards (ROMS, Year-end titles, etc.)

Novice Amateur points can only be gained at AQHA 'A' approved shows and judged by an AQHA Approved or Associate Judge. Amateurs must write to the AQHA office requesting a permit. The office will issue that permit and keep a tally of Novice Amateur points. Once the Amateur "breaks open", the permit will be revoked and the Amateur will be written to congratulating him/her on breaking open and this will also be published in the Quarter Horse News.

Novice Amateurs must compete on a Registered Quarter Horse. In order to gain Novice Amateur points with the WAQHA, the horse must be owned by a member of the WAQHA.
